Sandra Orejuela

Sandra is a passionate freediver, and her passion helped her become a professional
freediver. She is an educator and mother of four children. Born in Cali,
Colombia. She found her passion for being in the water as a child. Over the years, she
managed to get certified as a Dive Master in scuba with her diving school in Cartagena,
Colombia. In the 80s, Sandra moved to the United States and obtained her US citizenship. She
is an enthusiast, and over the years, she studied a range of multidisciplinary degrees and got
various experiences while staying active in her great passion, the water. Sandra graduated from
Keiser University with a degree in computer network administration, an associates degree in
legal studies, and a bachelors degree in criminal justice from Indian River State College. She
volunteers for the anti-human trafficking program and the Girl Scouts of America.
In 2017 Sandra received her first certification as a freediver and started to train
rigorously with competitive freediver and master instructor Antonio Del Duca after meeting him
in 2018 in a freediving competition. Del Duca gifted her his book The Apneist for participating in
the competition. Reading and learning more about freediving confirmed her desire to be a
professional freediver. She always wished to become a freediving instructor. However, it was a
goal that was postponed for several years.
In 2022, regardless of lack of time, she takes on the challenge of training to become an
international Freedive Gravedad Cero instructor, achieving it in three intensive months. Inspired
by the book The apneist, Sandra learned relaxation and breathing techniques such as
pranayama, yoga, and mind control techniques. She also applied hard physical training, thus,
achieving the maximum balance between body, mind, and spirit to be certified as a Freedive
Gravedad Cero freediving instructor.
One of the main reasons Sandra practices free diving is to bring mental control and
relaxation to her students and victims of crimes such as human trafficking and domestic
violence. Her goal is to integrate apnea and its benefits with some programs dedicated to
helping such victims and helping troubled adolescents to stay out of the judicial system and
potential crime prevention.
Her practices and teachings would act as therapy, a catharsis, and a way to relieve
anxiety. Ultimately, Sandra wishes to transmit her passion for free diving to her students while
teaching the correct techniques and the practice of safety within the sport, building a community
of free divers with the mission and vision of FG0 America, thus leaving a legacy for future
generations.
