Juan Leonardo Roldán Moreno was born in Quito on October 4, 1988, son of Edwin Manuel Roldan León, an Ecuadorian by profession Dr. Acupuncturist and Naval Officer; and mother Zully Támara Moreno Álvarez, an Ecuadorian by profession Dr. Homeopathic.
Juan, at an early age, practiced Olympic swimming at his school and before starting his training, he used to cross the pool (25 meters) in apnea, without knowing that there was a sport with that name. In 2011 he began to practice apnea, just when he was finishing his thesis in Food Engineering, Juan is invited at that time by his friend Carlos Proaño to train this discipline.
In 2012 he joined the Ecuadorian freediving national team to participate in the Pan American Championship in Cali. Since then, he has not stopped actively competing in national, Pan-American, Bolivarian and world apnea events, always standing out as one of the best freedivers in Ecuador and America in different modalities of this sport.
One of his last participations was in the 2019 Pan American Championship in Chile, qualifying as Pan American Champion in the modality of dynamics with monofin. Since then, he has been a coach of the Underwater Activities Club that has the name of Apnea Guayaquil.
